Bounce House Safety Tips Every Parent Should Know
Published 2025-11-20 ยท Safety
Bounce houses are a blast โ but without a few common-sense safety rules, they can also lead to injuries. Follow these guidelines and you'll have a safe, fun party every time.
1. Always Have an Adult Supervisor
Never leave kids unsupervised inside a bounce house. Assign one adult whose only job is to watch the inflatable. That means no checking their phone, no chatting with other guests โ eyes on the kids at all times.
2. Separate by Age and Size
Mixing toddlers and teenagers in the same bounce house is asking for trouble. Bigger kids jumping hard can seriously injure smaller ones. Run separate bounce sessions by age group: little kids first, bigger kids after.
3. Respect Weight and Capacity Limits
Every bounce house has a maximum weight capacity and a recommended number of occupants. Going over these limits puts stress on the seams and stitching and increases the risk of collapse. The rental company should provide these specs โ follow them.
4. No Shoes, No Sharp Objects
Shoes can damage the inflatable material and hurt other kids. Remove all shoes before entering. No glasses, earrings, necklaces, or belt buckles inside โ these can cause cuts and punctures.
5. Watch the Weather
Wind is the #1 danger for inflatables. Never operate a bounce house in winds over 15โ20 mph, or if thunderstorms are in the forecast. Most rental companies have weather policies โ if the vendor says to take it down, take it down. The safety stakes are not worth saving your deposit.
6. Don't Let Kids Jump Near the Entrance
The entrance and exit area is the most common spot for falls. Make sure kids jump in the center of the inflatable and always step out carefully โ no diving or flipping near the opening.
7. Confirm the Inflatable Is Properly Anchored
Before kids get in, check that the bounce house is staked into the ground or properly weighted down. A loose bounce house can tip or roll in a breeze. Your rental company should anchor it properly during setup โ if they don't, ask them to.
